This year, our Advent theme  “Come Home for Christmas”  is more than a title. It’s an invitation.

At Christmas, we celebrate the incredible truth that God came home to us.  God took on flesh (shared our humanity) and filled our world with grace and light. Now, we have the joy of extending that same welcome to others.

Each of us knows someone who needs a place to belong this season: a neighbor who lives alone, a friend who hasn’t been to church in a while, a coworker new to the community, or even a family member who just needs a reminder that they’re loved. What if this Christmas, we each helped someone “come home”?

Here are a few simple ways to bring someone home for Christmas:

  • Invite personally. A warm, genuine invitation means far more than a flyer or post. “I’d love for you to come sit with me on Sunday” can open a door to belonging.
  • Share your story. Tell someone what makes this season meaningful to you or how worship has brought you comfort.
  • Offer a ride or meet in front of the church. For some, the hardest part is showing up alone. Be the friendly presence that helps them feel comfortable.
  • Pray for your invitation. Ask God to guide your conversations and soften hearts: yours and theirs.

Christ has come to dwell with us and makes a home in every heart:  This season, let’s fill our sanctuary with joy, light, and welcome. Let’s help others find what we’ve found: a place to belong, a people to love, and a Savior who still comes home to us.

There’s a place for you — and for the people you love — at First Presbyterian Church this Christmas.
