Last week I confessed a few of my habits, foot-tapping and nail-chewing among them. Here's another thing about habits: other people usually notice them before we do. I can tap my foot through an entire meeting without a clue, but the person beside me knows by the second agenda item.
Giving is a little like that. Most of us don't think of an automatic transfer or an envelope in the plate as something anyone sees. But the people on the receiving end notice. The child who takes home a backpack full of food notices, and so does the family with a safe place to sleep tonight.
They will probably never know whose gift paid for what, and no one has to have our faith to receive help. Yet, they experience God's love in a tangible way. They see faith in action, and that is what witness looks like.
We know the story behind those gifts, and we find joy in seeing what God does with them. If you haven't filled out a pledge card yet, please pick one up. It helps the church plan a new year of ministry and carry tangible love into our community.
"For the rendering of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God." (2 Corinthians 9:12)
